A WORD of ENCOURAGEMENT
Filed under: Holy Ghost Encounters; No CommentsI have never forgotten my first trip to the State of New York. It was upstate — to the city of Elmira. The church was a small community of believers. The Pastor and his wife were very modest people. I was there Sunday morning and evening. What transpired the morning after, was far from what I expected.
The morning after the meetings, I was scheduled to depart for home. However, God had other plans for me besides heading back to my hometown. While the Pastor’s wife and I were seated at the kitchen table, she began to ask me questions concerning my ministry.
As I answered her questions, we fellowshipped, and then she began to exhort me concerning what she perceived about my ministry. She encouraged me to begin calling people out in my meetings, and to minister prophetically to them.
I had always wanted to operate this way but was a little intimidated to do so because I didn’t want to be inaccurate, or for people to view me in an ill-defined way. To be honest with you, it was the fear of man — coupled with the fear of the unknown, as well as the fear of failure. It would take a step of faith for me to begin to function this way. Until that time I had always reserved ministering this way for the prayer line. In the prayer line it was comfortable for me while praying for the needs of the people to shift into a psalmist—prophetic type of anointing.
It was a little uneasy for me to call people out from the pulpit while speaking. To obey God in this fashion I had to leave my comfort zones, and lay aside the fear of man — the fear of the unknown — and the fear of failure.
Well, I overcame all three fears and began to call people out. Yes, I was a little awkward at first, but as I began to flow this way, it became easier, and easier. It became the standard for me while speaking “The Word,” to see things about people, then I would ask them to stand and then share with them what I detected. That type of anointing usually comes on me, when I am in the pulpit. It does happen when I am not teaching, but generally it is coupled with teaching “The Word.”
When I follow the flow of “The Holy Ghost,” it never ceases to amaze me what He shows me. At times He doesn’t give me the freedom to call people out, publicly but the message I have for them is integrated in the teaching of “The Word.” Why? Because “The Holy Spirit” is a Gentleman. He would not embarrass anyone or make a public display of them, to the point of damaging or humiliating them. -AWM
