    Marital Stewardship

    Filed under: Marriage;

    by Anthony N. Wade

    The late Dr. Ed Cole said that “A man doesn’t own his marriage; he is only a steward of his wife’s love.”

    The first part of this quote is easy to understand. Yet, the last part requires some thought. What does it mean to be a steward of a wife’s love? The first thing that comes to mind is to define what the word steward means. I found a number of definitions. The following will function for this writing.

    STEWARD’S DEFINITION
    A person who attends to the internal concerns of person’s (wife) on board a vessel (marriage), as in overseeing the concerns of those in his care. Particularly his wife’s love.

    It is imperative for a man to attend to the love of his wife. This is found primarily in how he communicates with her. After all “Communication is the basis of life.” — Dr. Ed Cole

    Being a good steward of a wife’s love is a big task — yet achievable. The thing that is so rewarding about this is that the rewards are out of this world. The foundation of a wife’s love should be on the front burner of every marital union. Why? Because it is the glue that will see you through. Being a superb steward of her love will take your marriage out of the ordinary, into the extra ordinary. AWM
